When two beautiful people, such as my brother (well okay, he's handsome) and his wife Elena decide to have a baby, this is what you get. It almost hurts me to ONLY be able to look at him through a picture because I just want to squeeeeeeze him and kiss him all over SO SO SO bad!

Snow something or other
Poor Brian and Kate. Kate got a "snowman" kit for her birthday, so she was more than excited when it snowed the other day. However, the snow wasn't snowman making snow AT ALL. It was powdery and light with no stickability (is that a word?). Brian and Kate are determined though, and wanted to use the "snow/ice" balls from the road left by the plow. I picked up the two biggest ones I could find on the side of the road and stuck them on top of each other up on the lawn. Below is Kate's attempt at sticking an eye on (we'll have to work on the eye placement after the next snowstorm).
Here is the result of their joint effort. It's a sad little man, and by the expression on Brian and Kate's faces, they're not much happier.

Toy Story Fever!
For the past SEVERAL weeks we've been watching "Toy Story." I think we watched TS1 for about two weeks straight and have now been watching TS2 for about two weeks straight (maybe more, who knows). We've been watching it so much that Kate got Buzz and Woody for her birthday. Today we decided to see what other toys we could find around the house to complete the cast. As you'll see below we did a pretty good job. Starting from the left we've got "the strong muscle guy", "Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head", "Wheezy" (the penguin), the "Piggy Bank Pig", "Bullseye" (the horse), "Woody" and "Buzz", "Rex" (the dino), and "Jesse" (the cowgirl).
All I''m saying is "not bad Colleen!"
What can I say, I get REALLY bored some days!

Everything is GREAT....almost.
Jeff and I took Kate to her first follow-up appointment with the neurologist since having her seizures. The appointment went great, Kate looks great and the doctor told us that Kate will probably only have to be on the seizure medication for one year. Typically a child is kept on the medication for two years, but because Kate has been seizure free, they'll reduce it to one year! We are so thankful to God for hearing all of our prayers and your prayers, and so thankful to have such a beautiful and sweet daughter.
So why did I write "almost" in the title, you ask? Well, it's because they want to do another EEG on Kate in July. You may think, "Colleen, that's not really a big deal." And you know what? In the grand scheme of things, it's really not. The most important thing is to find out if Kate's brain is functioning correctly so she'll be able to stop taking the medication. However, it IS kind of a big deal because they want Kate to be asleep for the test. How do you get a 3 year old, who doesn't nap anymore, to fall asleep in a hospital room with electrodes stuck all over her head (without the use of drugs)? You have to keep her AWAKE the ENTIRE night before the test AND during the entire ride to the hospital. Do any of you reading this have a three year old, or have you had a three year old, or do you know any three year old children?
I'm not going to go on and on explaining how much I am NOT looking forward to this little "dream" night in July, so I will stop all my drama about it right now. KATE IS GREAT, and that's all that matters.

Poop problems, presents, and prizes...oh my!
If you enjoyed last nights entry entitled "Tinkle Talk" then you are sure to enjoy this evenings topic on poop. I would like to state that at this point you have been warned two times about the topic of this post (the first being the title). If you don't feel like reading about #2, then feel free to skip this one.
Let's start with Brian, shall we? Brian emerged from the bathroom this afternoon and exclaimed, "Mom! I pooped a little Valentine's Heart...since it's Valentine's Day!" What could I say except, "That's wonderful Brian, what a lovely gift, but you do know it's not Valentine's Day anymore, right?"
The day also wouldn't be complete without a "Kelly incident". Remember the post just beneath this one? The post with Kelly pictured pulling every last tissue out of the tissue box in the bathroom? Well just a short time ago I was in the kitchen cooking dinner and realized that it was too quiet in the living room. All three of them were in there but nobody was making a sound. As I turned the corner I saw that Kate was playing princess dolls, Brian was looking at a book and Kelly was taking all the wipes out of the wipe container and rubbing each on the top of her head. Of course she was! Why wouldn't she be??! I was just about to go in and get the wipes from her, but then I thought, why? I mean she was being quiet, and the gift of silence is far more valuable than a wasted package of wipes. About five minutes later Jeff pulled in from work (YIPEE!) and Kelly came running into the kitchen. Jeff picked her up and said, "Hi Kelly! Did you poop?" I told Jeff that she shouldn't have, since she had just gone a short time ago and I had already changed her. It was at that moment I remembered that I had left her dirty diaper (wrapped up in a tight bundle) in the living room, and a sick feeling began to creep up within me. When I entered the living room for a closer look at the wipes I noticed the now open diaper, missing it's "deposit." Thankfully (I guess if one can be thankful) it appeared as though the missing "package" had rolled onto a nearby book and only a small part was on the carpet. Poor Jeff ended up giving her a bath before eating his dinner (it wasn't done anyway), while making close observations of his own clothes to make sure he himself was clean :-).
And Kate? Kate is just great. She had another day of stellar "big girl" toilet encounters. Thank you Kate! As her prize for going she has been getting a few "Raisinets"...I swear I wasn't thinking about how they look like little poop pellets when I bought them!
So for now, let's hope our poop problems are behind us. Here's to normal Valentine gifts, clean carpets and continued fabulous potty training!

Tinkle Talk
Brian is like a camel. I don't know how he does it. He wakes up in the morning and I swear he doesn't go to the bathroom for 2-3 hours, and when he finally does go, it's usually because Jeff and I have encouraged/reminded him to do so. Anyway, Brian went into the bathroom on his own today (I believe he ran in) and then after a little while Jeff and I heard him say (in a pretty annoyed tone), "Ummm, am I going to tinkle ALL day or what?"
Speaking of "tinkling", Kelly has a new and quite annoying trick for us. Apparently she has decided that diaper changes are NOT okay, so when it's time for one she will lie still just long enough for the first diaper to be removed, and then she'll scream, arch her back, twist, and flail about with all her 13 month old strength, until she's free. And you kind of have to let her go because Jeff and I are afraid we're going to hurt her with the strength it would take to keep her down. WELL, once she is free and has run just out of arms reach, she turns around, gives a sly grin, and then proceeds to tinkle on the floor. LOVELY.
This post wouldn't be complete without mentioning our potty training champ! Kate Kate! This child has basically potty trained herself, the independent cutie that she is. I think she's only had one tinkling accident (wait a minute..maybe Kelly witnessed this accident and the brilliant idea to tinkle everywhere entered her active little brain). However, Kate doesn't like underwear because it's "being silly" (whatever that means). So most days I try to put a long shirt or dress on Kate (because she doesn't seem to like pants either), and she runs around "ready to go". Great job Kate!
I never in my life thought I would be writing a blog entry on tinkling, but then again, I never in my life thought I would be surrounded by so much tinkle!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Happy Valentine's Day to one and all! To the big and the small!
To the single and taken! To the eggs and the bacon! (I needed a rhyming word).
To the young and the old! To the ones who love gold! (ok..enough poetry).
Pictured here are the "fake" cupcakes Brian made at preschool. Hmmm, I can't tell if they're cute or just mean. I mean COME. ON. having a preschooler make a cupcake he can't eat? And then bringing it home for his mom to stare at longingly, just wishing it were real?!
It's being trashed after today (don't tell my son)...brahahaha!

Please stay still for just one picture!
My mom got the kids matching snowman pjs WAY before Christmas. I've been trying to get a good picture of the three of them together wearing their cute jammies. I guess trying to get them to sit still after dinner (with chocolate cake for dessert) wasn't the best timing! Maybe I'll try again tonight, that's if the pjs are still CLEAN!

"I amn't a baby!"
Don't you dare call her "Baby Kate!" These days she is a "big girl!" Kate Kate turned 3 today and we celebrated with family and friends. Kate is sweeter and funnier than ever. She is a blessing and a gift. She fills our hearts with joy!
Can you tell she's happy about getting Buzz and Woody?
Just in case you didn't catch the excitement from the first picture...
An "Ariel/M&M" cake...YUM!
Made from scratch...awesome frosting...cake, not so much..it looked great though!
A break with some pizza :-)

My apologies
Sorry to any of you who have been waiting for some new material...I just haven't been in a "blogging" mood lately. I should be in bed right now, not sure why I'm up. Anyway, life is good. My kids keep getting sick but I'm starting to get used to it. I've kind of forgotten what life was like when I wasn't taking a rectal temperature or wiping green snot off someone's face. No more seizures for Kate though, which is the greatest blessing (and relief).
Brian is still Brian: funny, smart, serious and slightly bossy. I took the kids for a hamburger at McDonald's today and Brian was having an issue with the chopped up onions. I said, "Brian, you haven't even tried them. How do you know if you like them or not if you don't try them first?" Brian, responded, "well I DIDN'T and I DON'T!" Alrighty then! Also, the other day he wasn't feeling well and I felt bad for him. I said, "Brian you are my beautiful boy." Brian responded in a somewhat agitated tone, "I KNOOOW I'm beautiful, I'm just tired of being a sick little guy!"
Kate is potty training and doing great, except for going #2 on the kitchen floor the other day. Jeff was the first one "on the scene" and when he reached into the bag of recycling to find a box to scoop it up with, the box he pulled out was a fudge brownie mix. Pretty funny given the item he was picking up! Kate will be 3 on Saturday and I can't believe it!
Kelly is good, loud as ever, but such a pretty girl too. Kelly thinks she's three and gets quite upset when her 13 month old body won't let her talk, run, eat, play etc. the way she would like. Kelly stands at the kitchen cupboard right next to Kate waiting for HER treat when Kate goes successfully on the potty. Kelly will watch Kate go to the bathroom and then follow her into the kitchen, making sure to also get in on the candy heart reward....she doesn't miss a trick, that one!
Okay, guess that's all for now...there's more...but I HAVE to get to BED!!! Peace!
