Today I was watching "Thomas and Friends" with my children. Often times I'm making them lunch while this cartoon type show about trains is on, but today lunches were made, so I sat and watched. The trains were gearing up for a big day on the Island of Sodor, as the circus was coming to town. Thomas had been selected as THE train to haul all of the circus equipment from the docks to it's final destination. It was a very "big and important job for this very useful engine" (yes, that's the way they talk on this show). The narrator at this point said, and I quote, "Thomas was so excited that his AXLES were TINGLING." Tingling? Really? Does anyone else find the choice of words mildly disturbing? I'm not really up on trains (I used the word "up" on purpose..it just seemed to go with the whole "tingling" theme), but I'm pretty sure that "axles" don't "tingle". However, I'm also pretty sure that trains don't have faces, talk or have feelings either...but on the magical Island of Sodor they do.
I think I'll be "tuning in" a bit more frequently from now on! Maybe you should too (kids or no kids :-)
